After breakfast, we begin our journey south towards Fes. Along the way, stop in the charming coastal town of Larache for a leisurely lunch by the ocean. Continue to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, where you can explore Bab Mansour Gate, Lahdim Square, the Royal Stables, and the old medina surrounded by impressive defensive walls. Later, we drive to Fes, arriving by evening. Dinner and overnight in a riad or hotel in Fes.
Today is dedicated to exploring the fascinating city of Fes, the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco. A local guide will lead you through the maze of the UNESCO-listed Fes El Bali, one of the world’s largest and oldest medieval medinas. Visit the famous leather tanneries, the Al-Qarawiyyin University (the oldest university in the world), madrasas, Nejjarine Fountain, and the beautiful Bou Inania Madrasa. Discover the Mellah (Jewish Quarter) and the Royal Palace gates. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to wander, shop for handicrafts, or relax. Dinner and overnight in Fes.
After breakfast, leave Fes and travel south through the Middle Atlas mountains. Stop in Ifrane, known as “the Switzerland of Morocco,” and then in Azrou’s cedar forest to meet the Barbary macaque monkeys. Continue through the dramatic landscapes of the Ziz Valley, filled with thousands of palm trees. After passing Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops, arrive at Merzouga on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Relax at the hotel and enjoy the magical atmosphere of the desert. Wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. After returning by camel to the hotel for breakfast and a shower, begin the journey towards Ouarzazate. Drive through Rissani, known for its traditional market, then visit the Todra Gorges—massive canyon walls rising up to 300 meters. Continue through the Dades Valley, also called the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, and admire its dramatic rock formations and lush oases. Pass through the Valley of Roses before arriving in Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Dinner and overnight in Ouarzazate.
After breakfast, explore the famous Kasbah of Taourirt in Ouarzazate, then head to Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous ksar and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
